Common Questions

Family Safari Tanzania FAQ

Yes — Tanzania is one of Africa's safest safari destinations for families. Game drives are conducted in closed vehicles; you never leave the vehicle in Big Five areas. Children aged 5+ can join game drives. The main risks are standard travel precautions: malaria prophylaxis (consult your doctor), sun protection, hydration, and avoiding street food in towns. Most lodges and camps have family rooms and children's menus.

Most national parks in Tanzania have no official minimum age. Practically, children aged 5 and above enjoy safari most — they can spot animals, use binoculars, and engage with the guide. Children under 3 are generally not recommended in Big Five areas due to the need to stay in the vehicle. For hot air balloon safaris, the minimum age is 7 years.

Children aged 5–11 travelling in the same vehicle as their parents receive a 50% discount on the adult per-person rate. Children under 5 are generally free (subject to lodge/camp policy). At some premium lodges, children under 12 are free. Contact us with your children's ages and we will calculate the exact family rate.

Yes — the family safari operates year-round with 2026, 2027, and 2028 departures available. Prices are subject to an annual adjustment of approximately 6–8%. Contact us to confirm current pricing and availability for your preferred departure year.

Children consistently love: elephant herds in Tarangire (200+ animals), lion prides with cubs in the Serengeti, cheetahs running, zebras and wildebeest, hippos, giraffes, and flamingos at Ngorongoro. The Ngorongoro Crater is particularly popular with children because of the density and variety — you can see lions, rhinos, elephants, and flamingos all in one morning.
